21 Oct Year 2 visit St. Mary’s Church
Year 2 visited St Mary’s Church in Beddington Park. The children have been learning all about the church as a Christian place of worship during their religious education lessons. They have also been learning about special stories. The visit consolidated the children’s learning and they were able to see first hand what it is like to be in the church and to find out more about Christian worship. The children listened to Father Andrew respectfully, answering his questions and asking their own questions too. They looked at how the font is used in a christening ceremony, found out the purpose of frankincense being lit inside the church and heard the church bell ringing. Once they had listened to Father Andrew, the children were split into groups to find out about the different parts of the church. The children learned about the altar and its purpose in Christian worship. They looked at the paintings and stained glass windows and heard about the special stories behind them. They also created drawings of different parts of the church. The children really benefited from this visit and are looking forward to visiting other places of worship such as our local Mosque later in the year. Thank you to Father Andrew and the team at St May’s Church for making us so welcome once again.
