The Governing Body is always interested to hear from people who would like to join us. There are two possible routes:
The Governing Body currently has four Parent-Governor positions. If a Parent-Governor leaves, an election is held for a replacement, with a tenure of four years. The only people eligible to vote in the election are parents of children at the school – the Governing Body has no influence on the outcome.
The Governing Body also has occasional vacancies for Community Governors – and can choose to co-opt suitable candidates who are keen, committed and, in particular, have skills which we may lack from time to time.
School Governance is a rewarding public duty – there is no better feeling than knowing you have given up time and effort to improve the life-chances of children. (Giving up time and effort is not an optional component…) It is also unpaid, time-consuming, occasionally stressful, often frustrating and, initially at least, incomprehensibly dominated by a whole new world of jargon (which we will help with!). You will benefit – perhaps hugely – from the experience and you will learn about yourself and your own capabilities – it’s impossible not to. You will also – almost certainly – get a chance to experience the moments of joy that children occasionally offer in the school environment. Because that is the whole point of it: The Children.
Or you could just take the plunge and fill out the form. The information will be passed (directly) to me, as the current Chair of the Governing Body – the only other person who can see it is the administrator for the school’s website, the current Deputy Head. I will acknowledge your submission – give me a couple of days – and, if we can see an opportunity for you to join the team, I will be in touch. I will hold your details on file if we have no open position for a Community Governor – one may arise at a later date.
